  • Instagram to Mastodon Crossposter update!

Irony of ironies, now that I have pointed out my Instagram to Mastodon Crossposter in my previous article, someone has messaged me to say it’s stopped working! As expected, it was due to changes in the Mastodon API in the three years since I last touched it, so here is an updated version of how to auto-post your latest Instagram images on Mastodon using If This Then That (IFTTT) ... • On Migrating From Twitter To Mastodon

When I last wrote about Mastodon almost three years ago, I was tinkering about with what was then a niche Twitter alternative, with a small but devoted, mainly tech based, userbase. However, that’s all changed now. Since Elon Musk’s buyout of Twitter has amplified existing problems on the platform, and added financial and technical problems on top, Mastodon has recived a huge influx of Twitter users fearing that their home of many years is about to implode. A great deal of this influx includes writers, journalist, and other artists. Some companies and organisations have set up their own Mastadon servers, most notably the European Union. Many others are interested, but are put off by the apparently obtuse way to get on it. This post is for them. I’ll detail my experience on the platform, and what I’ve learned from it. ... [More]

  • My shoes have found out I'm still alive

As I said in a previous post, I really don’t like wearing anything on my feet, and, since early March I have not worn shoes never mind socks, wearing only sandals or flip-flops when I venture outside. I wondered how long I could keep this up, and how long and sustained my barefootedness would last until weather forces me to fully cover up. The answer is… ... [More]
  • Listen to the start of digital

Whilst researching for a virtual “pub” quiz, I found out that the first-ever commercially digitally recorded record released to the public was this lovely jazz recording. It’s an album called “Something” by Steve Marcus + Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media. The title track is based on the Beatles song by George Harrison off the album Abbey Road, which was less than two years old when this was recorded. (Jan 1971). It’s done very much in the style of Mile Davis’ 1969 album “In a Silent Way“. This was the second to be recorded using the same recording setup, but the first to be released. (Feb 1972) Due to the primitive nature of the early digital recording process (It was essentially the equivalent of an analogue stereo reel-to-reel.) the entire album was recorded in one single take. ...
